THANK YOU,

Four Take-home Messages

Here are the big points I made in my talk:

  1. Use artificial intelligence to support weaknesses, not strengths
  2. Reflect on trust as a professional asset
  3. Stay in Touch. My newsletter, The Bat Signal, can keep you updated

(Notes/References from my keynote are below)

The Bat Signal is also a great way for you and me to keep the conversation going. It gives you a way to email me directly to follow up with questions & comments. And it gives me a way to keep you informed going forward, especially about the stuff I talked to you about in my presentation.

Plus, as a fun bonus there's even a trivia question every week. It's super fun.

About Me and My Work in TV/Biology:

I Mentioned Five A.I. Experts. Who Were They?

    • Sam Altman (CEO of OpenAI - they make ChatGPT)
    • Geoffrey Hinton ("Godfather of A.I." and Nobel Laureate)
    • Fei-Fei Li (Professor of Computer Science at Stanford)
    • Elon Musk (Billionaire Entrepreneur)
    • Andrew Ng (Co-founder and Head of Google Brain)

Papers and Articles I mentioned (in order)

    You Cannot Trust A.I.

    Examples of A.I. Improving Productivity

Some ways I have used Chat-GPT to be more productive

    • Making bookmarklets in Firefox. Example:
      • When I see an interesting scientific news story, I want to select it and hit a button and have it saved to a growing list of papers on my desktop. Include the URL, so I can find it again. How do I do that? Make it simple, like I'm in high school.
    • Coding tasks
      • For The Bat Signal, every week I need to make a 5-second animated gif 'preview' of a movie. To save time, I want to be able to double click an icon on my computer that runs some code, have that code ask me "which movie file?" and "what time do the 5 seconds start?" and then do that job instantly. How do I do that? Make it simple, like I'm in high school.
    • Software assistance
      • Photoshop: How do I expand a Photoshop image with 'generative fill?' Break it down into steps.
      • Excel: The kids at my son's birthday party thius weekend will vote for which Star Wars movie they will watch. I need an excel spreadsheet that takes their votes, then gives me a list of movies, ranked by vote.
      • iOS: I want a voice-recording grocery list adding app on my phone – an icon that i can click, then speak any item and have it added to the grocery list I share with my wife.

Thanks again for inviting me to speak with you.

I hope you find value in this information, and I hope we'll be in touch going forward.
